Summary by Dirk Langeveld
The Connecticut Economic Development Fund is launching an entrepreneurial education program that will give attendees a shot at earning $10,000 to support their business.
My Business Jump Start includes six online sessions on starting and managing a business. Attendees can then compete for the Business Encouragement Award, which is being offered by Citizens Bank.
The course covers a wide range of topics, including business planning, financing, licenses and permits, insurance, accounting and cash flow, and e-commerce. Participants are invited to study at their own pace, and can log into six Zoom sessions, which begin April 7, to review topics, connect with their peers, and consult with business experts.
My Business Jump Start is accessible through May 15. Participants who complete a final exam with a score of 80 percent or higher receive a certificate of program completion from My Own Business Institute and CEDF.
Anyone who earns this certificate may also record a three-minute video pitch to present their business concept and enter to win the $10,000 Business Encouragement Award. The deadline for submissions is May 22, with winners announced June 4.
Jump Start mentoring resources will continue to be available free of charge for participants after the end of the program.
