- Online renewal is now available for all licenses and registrations overseen by the department
- Use of online services for licenses, registrations, and payments has increased steadily since 2014
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection has expanded its online services for credential holders after the agency’s digital services saw a surge in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The department says that over the past year, it has made online renewal available for all 245 licenses and registrations it oversees. Online reinstatement is now available for 172 credentials, including the ability to renew an expired license outside the the normal renewal period. Initial applications are available online for 108 credentials.
Governor Ned Lamont said that the expanded services allow more credential services to apply, renew, reinstate, or pay for credentials online in a safe and secure way. He said the updates also make major improvements in efficiency, cutting the average wait time for credential approval by up to 10 days and allowing approval in as little as three days in some cases.
The Department of Revenue Services renewed four out of five licenses online in 2020, up from 61 percent in 2016. Fifty-five percent of initial applications were made online last year, an increase from just 19 percent in 2016. The department also collected 68 percent of its fees and other revenue digitally in 2020.
Use of the department’s digital services has increased steadily since 2014, and online payments eclipsed traditional payments in 2017.
