Summary by Dirk Langeveld
The Department of Labor is taking applications for its Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations grant program, which aims to bolster the number of women in registered apprenticeship programs as well as occupations such as manufacturing, infrastructure, cybersecurity and healthcare.
The program, which is administered by the Women’s Bureau and the Employment and Training Administration, will take applications through June 4. The DOL is providing $3.5 million for up to 10 grants, with awards ranging from $350,000 to $750,000.
The program:
- Supports community-based organizations to recruit, mentor, train and retain more women in registered apprenticeships and nontraditional occupations
- Seeks to address how women are underrepresented in both registered apprenticeships and high-growth, high-wage STEM fields
- Is open to organizations that provide qualifying technical assistance, such as skills training programs, employer orientations, or support groups or other facilitating networks
