- Orsted recently introduced its Thrive immersive safety training program for personnel working on Orsted’s Hornsea Two offshore wind farm
- One-day multimedia experience shows the circumstances leading up to a fatal accident as well as the consequences
- Purpose-built center envisioned as lasting facility that can be used by other companies for training purposes
The Danish wind developer Orsted is using an innovative new way to promote safe practices among personnel working on its latest offshore wind farm: an interactive theatrical experience.
Orsted recently debuted a fully immersive full day safety training program dubbed Thrive. In the first half of the program, participants witness the chain of events leading up to a fatal accident during a load-out operation as well as the consequences of the mishap. This is followed by a workshop on the importance of communication in creating a safe work environment.
Thrive uses a multimedia set to create an immersive experience, including a 180-degree curved screen with a projection of a realistic waterfront location, a set built to replicate a work environment, and actors. It was originally set to debut earlier this year but was delayed due to COVID-19.
The program will be used to train people working on the Hornsea Two wind farm, which will establish 165 turbines in the North Sea and is set to go online in 2022. Orsted expects that Thrive will be used for its other employees and will also be available to other companies looking to improve their workplace safety programs.
