FUNDING SOURCES

CDFIs

Community development financial institutions direct funding to economically distressed communities in an effort to support economic growth and opportunities. CDFIs can be banks, credit unions, loan funds, and venture capital funds whose primary mission is supporting these communities. Programs often support initiatives such as affordable housing, energy efficiency improvements, and small business startups or expansions.

The Treasury Department’s CDFI Fund oversees several programs to assist CDFIs. The Opportunity Finance Network includes a CDFI locator allowing entrepreneurs to search for institutions based on information like area served and type of loans offered.
