An infrastructure compromise, reduced services and staff at hotels, a special legislative session in Connecticut, and an East Coast collaborative on offshore wind are among the top business news items this morning.

A bipartisan group of senators has reached a compromise agreement on infrastructure spending, which could result in $1.2 trillion in investments over eight years. The agreement comes after the White House shut down negotiations with Republican senators due to disagreements over new spending, though it has also raised concerns about Democrats that it may not address enough of the key issues raised in President Joe Biden’s original $2.3 trillion proposal.

Travelers are likely to find fewer perks when staying at hotels. These businesses are trimming down their services and workforces in a bid to reduce costs as the industry recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, cutting back on things like daily room cleanings and continental breakfasts

Connecticut

The Connecticut General Assembly is planning to return for a special session within a couple of weeks after completing the regular 2021 session on Wednesday. The key purpose for the session will be to make a final decision on whether to legalize recreational marijuana in Connecticut, but lawmakers may also take action on other items that were not completed before the session expired.

Governor Ned Lamont and eight other East Coast governors have signed a letter encouraging the Biden administration to continue its prioritization of offshore wind. The governors are also committing to regional collaborative efforts to meet their clean energy targets.
