NOAA Innovators’ Series Presentation: Ocean Dashboard
NOAA Innovators’ Series Presentation: Ocean DashboardAugust 21, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Free- Part of a NOAA series highlighting projects funded by NOAA’s Technology Partnerships Office through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program
- A presentation by Ocean Dashboard on its use of small satellite reporting sensors that can be deployed in large enough numbers to improve sampling density
- A discussion of how such sensors can improve tracking of fish and cetacean migration, human activities, and physical processes
About the event
The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration holds its regular Innovators’ Series, which features projects funded by their Technology Partnerships Office through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. In this presentation, Ocean Dashboard discusses how it used small, long-endurance autonomous satellite reporting sensors deployed in large enough numbers to improve sampling density.
This technology allow for easy deployment and sampling densities that otherwise would have been cost prohibitive. It also allows improvements in ocean monitoring in areas such as tracking fish migration or the movement of endangered species, human activities, and physical processes.
About the presenter
Marco Flagg founded Desert Star Systems LLC in 1992. His work has focused on a strategy of modular design that produces efficiencies of scale across an ever-growing product portfolio that has been supported by the NOAA SBIR program at multiple steps.
