Founded in 1973, the Mystic Aquarium is one of the premiere tourist destinations in southeastern Connecticut with exhibits featuring beluga whales, penguins, sea lions, sharks, and more. Mystic Aquarium also sponsors scientific research into aquatic animal husbandry and health, offers scientific educational activities, promotes conservation efforts (especially those in Long Island Sound), and seeks to be an international source of zoological, aquatic and marine-life science information within the scientific and academic communities.

Educational Programs

Mystic Aquarium provides formal and informal educational programs for all ages, including a Sea School preschool and school/youth group visits. It also provides a wealth of online resources and virtual conservation education programs.

Conservation Programs

Mystic Aquarium offers a team of marine mammal experts and maintains a suite of conservation programs, including laboratory and field research into aquatic animal health, an “Ocean Ambassador” program for volunteer citizen scientists, and research in conservation and sustainability topics.
